The Lyons Emergency Assistance Fund (LEAF) was created in 2008 by a group of concerned citizens who recognized a gap in accessibility to human services for Lyons residents in need. LEAF is a non-profit organization operating as a project of the Colorado Nonprofit Development Center. Before becoming a non-profit in 2014, LEAF operated as a community project of the Lyons Community Church.
In small mountain towns, many barriers exist that block people from getting the help they desperately need. Environmental challenges such as distance/weather/transportation combined with a lack of awareness of what services are actually available and whether or not they are eligible, create major gaps in service delivery. LEAF aims to fill that gap by offering a local hub for safety net services in Lyons.
